История уличного художника Бэнкси BANKSY

Banksy is the pseudonym of the most high-profile graffiti artist in contemporary street art @banksy. Although there are no specific biographical facts, it is believed that he was born in a suburb of Bristol in 1974 and then moved to the city where he spent his youth.

According to Illustrator and graphic designer Tristan Manco, one of the most ardent urban art researchers, the controversial Banksy was a butcher’s apprentice before getting into graffiti during the”aerosol boom” of the 80s. In the 90-ies he was a member of the gang DryBreadZ team of Bristol, aka DBZ, while his fame began to spread like wildfire, mainly due to its tit-for-tat war overpaining with the best graffiti artist of the time, King Robbo, while learning about a coma deceased Robbo, he did not put an end to their hostility and did not pay to his opponent a series of heartfelt Tributes.

On 12 July 2008, The Mail on Sunday announced that it had discovered his true identity, revealing his name as Robin Gunningham, which the actual Mr Gunningham always denied when questioned. According to other sources, his real name may be Robert banks or Robin banks, although the latter seems to be a play on the words “Bank robbery”.

Whatever the reason, the mystery still surrounds him. According to will Simpson, Secretary of the Bristol Easton Cowboys and Cowgirls football club, the artist accompanied them on a 2001 tour of Mexico in which he played matches against the Zapatista freedom fighters. There are photos of him painting a mural in honor of their cause, his uneven face well hidden under a handkerchief, and no other noticeable signs of his personality at all. The photos were published in Freedom through football: the story of Easton Cowboys & Cowgirls.
